Motorcycle work done is mainly on older bikes, and ranges from simple repairs on damaged or worn-out parts, to design and fabrication of frames and fuel or oil tanks.

Exhaust systems have been in demand, especially for the 1970’s superbikes.

Multiple SA champ and world Grand Prix Championship contender Alan North on 350 Yamaha restored by Performance Welding.

We often use old-school hot-bending techniques which produce smooth flowing bends ideal for high-performance exhausts.

Another old world technique which we have revived is bronze welding on frames. Although slow and difficult to master, the joints are superior to fusion-welding and ideal for the dynamic stresses on motorcycles. We have built/rebuilt various bikes, from pedigreed race machines to Harley Café racers.

Quality footrests, caliper brackets, fairing brackets, etc. are regularly made- up to suit race and road bikes. We have worked on everything from Ariel to Zundapp, pre WW1 to 2016 models! Cars are also catered for as we have done work on Porsches, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, MG’s and many others.

Prize winning Bonneville as restored by the late Peter Moody – South Africa’s leading Triumph restorer. Performance Welding did all the welding panel beating and bead – blasting on all Peter’s restorations.

Double SA Champ in the 70s – Howard Mellett rode the Performance Welding built Z1000 replica of his 1978 bike at the Zwartkops Day of the Champions.

A very rare original set of Gurney Westlake cylinder heads which we welded –up to repair water corrosion damage. Centre casting is the magnesium alloy water distributor. These heads were used in the 60s on the 289 Ford small block racing engines in the GT40 and gave an extra 40hp. Almost certainly the only set in SA – they were used on Bobby Olthoff’s Gunston Capri Perana back in the day.
